Insisting on a rather unusual black tie attire for its launch, Ducati hopes to bring together both the gentleman and the bastard rider into one bike with the XDiavel.
It hopes to appeal to an entirely new demographic of buyers with its comfortable forward controls with the reputed performance and handling of a Ducati. The XDiavel hopes to move further afield into the cruiser segment with more changes geared towards the relaxed driving style than the regular Diavel. The new model touts itself as both a cruiser and a sportbike. It is characterized by its feet-forward positioned foot pegs in true cruiser style, yet boasts of more modern styling and aggressive sport bike-like lean angles of up to 40 degrees.
The bike features a full LED lighting system, while still retaining the characteristic Ducati Trellis frame. Riders can glimpse speeds and settings from its 3.5-inch color TFT LCD instrument cluster. Warning lights have been relegated to a separate indicator bar.
Propelling the new model is a Euro 4 compliant, Ducati Testastretta DVT L-twin 1262cc engine. It features liquid cooling, Desmodronic variable valve timing and dual spark plugs per cylinder. As opposed to its more popular sport and adventure bikes, the engine has been designed to return a relatively flat torque curve, for smooth operation even in low revolutions, while returning a maxmimum of 128.9 NM of torque at 5,000 rpm. It can also produce a maximum of 156 bhp.
From the engine, power goes through a six-speed transmission and is delivered to the rear wheels by a conventional cruiser-style belt drive. Forks in front and a single-sided swing-arm soak up bumps on the road. Brembo brakes governed by ABS bring it to a drama free stop. More cruiser hallmarks include an 18 liter fuel tank ensures longer rides, and fat 240mm rear tires.
It also provides a wide range of compatibility and adjustability to a variety of statures with up to 60 different fit options for the seats, bars, and foot peg positions.
Best of all the XDiavel is fitted with a suite of safety and convenience systems that includes Bosch Cornering ABS, Traction Control, Power Launch Control, Hands Free Cruise Control, Backlit Handlebar switches, and Keyless ignition.
XDiavel is now available at all Ducati dealers, with a price of P1.57M.
