Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has pulled the covers off its fifth-generation RAV4, developed on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). The all-new Toyota RAV4 boasts an updated design and improved performance to better compete in an increasingly competitive crossover SUV segment.

“The all-new RAV4 is a car that embodies Toyota’s values – from its sporty design, powerful performance, and outstanding safety features. Built with the Toyota New Global Architecture, we can expect this SUV to deliver only the best driving experience,” said TMP President, Satoru Suzuki during the official launch of the full model change RAV4.

New platform, new engine

The TNGA platform allows the RAV4 to have a lowered-center of gravity combined with a high-rigidity body structure, as well as a lower belt line, repositioned outer mirrors now mounted on the door, and a thinner, low-set instrument panel for improved driving visibility.

Toyota’s mission to enhance the RAV4’s handling and performance is made possible by a newly developed front and rear suspension system, together with a new 2.5L (A25A- FKS) Dynamic Force Engine with Dual VVT-I with VVT-iE (Variable valve timing intelligent system by electric motor) aiming for optimum performance and less fuel for combustion. The new engine produces 203-hp and 242-Nm of torque, and is mated to a direct shift 8-speed automatic transmission, which features a multi-plate lock-up clutch for smoother shifts and quicker acceleration.

Styling changes, inside and out

The 2019 RAV4’s design facelift includes a “cross-octagon” exterior design with a wedge-shaped front linked to an octagon-shaped rear. The fascia now features a two-tiered upper and lower trapezoid grille, while the sides feature prominent squared wheel arches that house 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, depending on the trim.

On the inside, the heavily-updated dashboard features a seven-inch multi-information display, while the rest of the cabin highlights user-friendly features such as a wireless charger, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory and lumbar support, and auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Improved safety features

Toyota is proving that the passengers’ safety is a top priority by equipping the new RAV4 with a slew of safety equipment. All variants of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 come with seven airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, and ABS, while the top-of-the-line LTD variant gets an additional eight-eye front and rear sensor system, and a back-up camera.

The all-new RAV4 comes in six standard colors, White Pearl, Red Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, Urban Khaki, and Cyan Metallic with three other colors available on special order (approximately three-month delivery time), namely, Super White, Attitude Black, and Dark Blue Mica Metallic.

The base model LE trim comes at P1,638,000, the mid-speced XLE variant is priced at P1,870,000, while the top-of-the-line LTD model is priced at P2,188,000.
