Mazda Philippines recently unveiled their refreshed Mazda6 models with a variety of styling and technology updates, including a new engine option. In addition, they offered a glimpse at the rare 30th Anniversary Edition MX-5.
The Mazda6 Sedan is now available with two engine options to choose from: the 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D turbo diesel, and a new addition: a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G turbocharged gasoline engine similar to the one currently powering the Mazda CX-9. The new gasoline turbo engine produces 230 hp and 420 Nm of torque as early as 2,000 rpm. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the engine utilizes vanes inside the turbocharger unit to reduce the volume of exhaust gases at low engine rpm. The faster outflow to the turbine allows the turbocharger to react more immediately, thus reducing turbo-lag. The resulting instantaneous pull produced by the new engine further enhances driving pleasure while at the same time maximizes gains in fuel efficiency. Combined with an improved exhaust outflow through a 4-3-1 exhaust manifold that utilizes a scavenging effect to extract combustion gases out smoothly and efficiently, the engine delivers power smoothly and consistently throughout the rpm range.
There are some significant changes inside the Mazda6 Sedan Turbo as well. It sports a redesigned cabin that features Deep Chestnut-colored Nappa leather seats – ventilated for the driver and front passenger. Suede accents along with Japanese Sen Wood trim line the passenger space to maintain an atmosphere of elegance and style. Providing entertainment is an 11-speaker Bose Premium sound system, now with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
Both the Skyactiv-D and Skyactiv-G variants of the Mazda6 Sedan feature a 360-degree camera, Lane Keep Assist, and Blind Spot Monitoring for Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Contributing to a more refined, smoother drive is an updated steering system, revised chassis dynamics, additional sound-absorbing materials, and Mazda’s latest innovation from their Skyactiv-Vehicle Dynamics suite: G-Vectoring Control Plus.
Mazda6 Sports Wagon
Like its sedan sibling, the Mazda6 Sports Wagon variant features updated exterior and interior appointments. A bold new grille layout combined with an updated 19-inch wheel design serves to elevate its presence on the road. The Mazda6 Sports Wagon continues to be powered by the naturally-aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter engine with some added upgrades. Now producing 190 hp and 252 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission, the engine comes standard with cylinder-deactivation technology, which shuts off its two outside cylinders in cruising conditions for improved fuel efficiency.
Inside, the Mazda6 Sports Wagon also comes standard with Nappa leather seats with front ventilation, an eight-way electric driver’s seat with lumbar support and memory function, dual-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, push-button start, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, cruise control, an electronic parking brake, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Mazda Connect integration with Commander control knob and touchscreen control functionality, 360-degree camera, a new eight-inch display screen, and a 7-inch TFT display screen in the instrument cluster. Adaptive LED Headlights and Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert come along with Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning and are all standard safety features across the range.
The new Mazda6 Turbo, the current Mazda6 Diesel, and the Mazda6 Sports Wagon are available at all Mazda dealerships nationwide with the following prices: Mazda6 Sports Wagon, P1,995,000; Mazda6 Skyactiv-D, P2,250,000; and Mazda6 Skyactiv-G Turbo, P2,250,000.
