The new Mercedes-Benz GLE embodies all kinds of strength as it is now more intelligent, more aware, and more considerate. The new vehicle was unveiled by Auto Nation Group (ANG), importer and distributor of Mercedes-Benz, at their EDSA Greenhills showroom.
The new GLE has numerous innovations such as its active suspension system: the world first E-Active Body Control, and driving assistance systems like Active Stop-and-Go Assist. The new GLE is also more spacious and seats seven comfortably. The instrument cluster is now a wide digital screen, enhanced with a full-color heads-up display integrated with the MBUX infotainment system. All these improvements were introduced during the launch event.
With better aerodynamics, the GLE has a muscular profile upfront, with new multibeam LED headlights fitted with Ultra Range beams. Its 21-inch light alloy wheels give it a strong stance. Chrome accents around the windows enhance its SUV character. It has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, opening up more space — especially in the rear — for more legroom and headroom and allowing for third-row seats. The rear lights are split and wrap around the corners making it look wider, with illuminated blocks typical of Mercedes-Benz SUVs. There’s also a chrome-plated rear under guard. Finally, its power lift tailgate can be opened with a kicking motion underneath the rear bumper.
Redefined interior space
Inside, the new GLE maintains the luxurious, elegant ambience of a Mercedes-Benz. Its interior is sporty and stylish with a new dashboard design with up to 64 colors of premium ambient mood lighting to choose from. Its third row seats are electronically adjusted and can be folded to accommodate longer items.
The new GLE is equipped with a suite of safety features such as Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, and a 360-degree camera. It also has risk mitigating features under its Intelligent Driving Systems.
The intelligent MBUX.
The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) can now be felt in the new GLE with two 12.3-inch touchscreens arranged side-by-side for an impressive wide-screen look. There’s a central console touchpad, and touch-control buttons on the steering wheel. The MBUX system is a Mercedes-Benz’s intelligent virtual assistant activated by pressing a button or by saying, “Hey Mercedes”. It recognizes voice commands for destination input, phone call, music selection, climate control, and ambient lighting and can recognize and understand most sentences regarding multimedia and vehicle operation. It also offers seamless Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.
The new GLE is powered by an inline four-cylinder 2.0L turbo diesel engine that puts out 245-Hp and 500-Nm between 1,600-2,400 rpm, mated to the 9G TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission. The new GLE is offered as a 4MATIC all-wheel drive. It’s also equipped with EQ Boost, which recovers energy from braking and engine shut offs to deliver a boost of energy when needed or to eliminate turbo lag.
“From the time we introduced the GLE in 2005, it’s been regarded as an icon of confidence among our discerning customers, who want a premium SUV that offers no compromise. It has drawn both aspiration and inspiration from people who are the CEOs of their lives, and those who live for life’s adventures,” said Francis Jonathan C. Ang, Chief Operating Officer, Auto Nation Group
The new GLE 300d 4MATIC variant is now available at all Mercedes-Benz dealerships nationwide at P5.690 million.
